The Pool Bike Scheme

The University of York offers a free cycle hire service for use by staff and students to travel between The King's Manor Campus and the main Heslington Campus. There are 10 cycles available for hire.

The bikes can be hired for up to 48 hours at a time in exchange for a £10 returnable deposit.

How the scheme works

  • You will need to become a member of the University Pool Bike Scheme.  Click here for a copy of the terms and conditions.
  • Once you have read, agreed and signed the terms and conditions - post your signed copy to the Travel Plan Co-ordinator, Home Farm.
  • The Travel Plan Co-ordinator will e-mail you confirmation of receipt of your signed terms and conditions, confirming details and informing you when you membership card will be ready for collection.
  • Once you have received your membership card you can use the University Pool Bike Scheme.

There are 6 Pool Bikes located at James College in a secured cycle store, 2 Pool Bikes located at Halifax College, 3 Pool Bikes located at Goodricke College and 4 Pool Bikes located at King's Manor in a secured cycle store.  

Hiring a Pool Bike

  • If you would like to hire a Pool Bike from the main Campus, go to Goodricke College Reception or Halifax College Reception.  If you would like to hire a Pool Bike from King's Manor, go to King's Manor Reception.
  • You will need your Pool Bike membership card and a deposit of £10.00 which is refundable on return of the cycle at the end of the loan period.
  • You will be asked to sign a booking form.  This details the cycle number, date of loan, deposit paid.
  • You will then be given the appropriate keys.

Pool Bikes

YSIS will be on bikes…

On Thursday 8 May YSIS launched the bike scheme, in conjunction with the university and under the watchful eye of Fiona Macey. From hereon all YSIS students will be able to hire a bike from the university to cycle to their schools. On condition of a refundable £10 deposit, the bike pool will be free to all YSIS tutors providing cost–effective, environmentally friendly, quick and easy transport. No more waiting for a late bus and no more traffic jams!
