Your change network

We're building a University-wide community of 'Change Advocates', giving departments the local support and guidance needed to adjust to new ways of working. Our existing network of leaders has shaped progress on the transformation so far – now we're ready to expand it further.

The HR and Finance Transformation Programme will affect us all in some way, so the Change Network is a safe space for representatives across all departments and role types to come together and share feedback. You don't need to know much about the transformation already, or to be an expert in any specific process or skill.

What will the Change Network do?

We'll meet Change Advocates for monthly 90-minute sessions to openly discuss the transformation. Change Advocates can use these conversations to help their communities prepare for the changes ahead, in a choice of two key areas.

  • A focus on the people: translating and sharing key messages among those they work with, signposting resources, and feeding back insights.
  • A focus on the system: getting involved with user testing for the affected processes, and guiding staff on how to carry them out effectively.

We'll also continue working with leaders: helping them identify potential Change Advocates, providing them with updates to share wider, and guiding them on how to support their teams.

Thank you to everyone who has already worked with us as part of our existing Change Network. We're really pleased to now be able to expand it, work even more proactively with colleagues, and get wider input on how to embed the new ways of working this transformation will bring.

What will Change Advocates gain?

Being a Change Advocate brings with it a wide range of personal and professional benefits, shaped around their areas of interest.

  • Growing career skills: learn to lead, communicate and problem-solve through workshops, coaching and other development opportunities.
  • Building relationships: connect with peers and colleagues from other teams to learn from, and collaborate on, shared challenges.

The transformation's Change Management Team will support the Change Network throughout the programme; they'll work with Change Advocates to make sure everyone gains from the experience through tailored support and training.

Become a Change Advocate

If you'd like to nominate yourself to become a Change Advocate, talk to your line manager about the opportunity. They can make sure you'd be a good fit for the commitment involved, and the benefits it'll bring you. Nominations will close on 10 April, and the in-person onboarding session will be on 23 April, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Become a Change Advocate

The Change Network is a brilliant example of York's community spirit. It'll offer Change Advocates and their departments that much-needed peer support around the trickier aspects of the transformation – and the skills to navigate the ever-changing landscape of higher education.
