Studying modules from other departments lets you broaden your knowledge, make unique academic connections and boost your employability.
Many of our courses give you the option to take interdisciplinary modules or languages modules. You’ll need to check with your department to find out what’s available to you.
York Interdisciplinary Modules
York Interdisciplinary Modules offer you the opportunity to develop key skills across different disciplines. You'll be taught by academics from different departments and work in groups with students from across the University.
For example, solutions to environmental and societal challenges can only be found by working across disciplines. As such, York Interdisciplinary Modules give you the opportunity to work on pressing local and global challenges from a range of perspectives. Examples include:

York Language Electives
Learning a language can broaden your horizons and deepen your knowledge of different cultures. In a globalised and interconnected world, it can give you a competitive edge.
You can choose from a wide range of languages to study, at levels from beginner to advanced. Options are likely to include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Modern Greek, Polish, Russian and Spanish.
