Using commuter students to explore intersectionality and co-construct inclusive learning, assessment and success
Department: Education
Project Leads: Liz Thomas, Esther Wilson
Summary
The project will improve the experiences of students who 'commute', providing ways of hearing their voices and co-constructing inclusive solutions. We will:
- Hold a hybrid meeting for students in the Department of Education who identify as commuters (~12).
- Recruit 4 commuter student partners, and develop their knowledge and skills for the role.
- Survey students to find out how many identify as commuters, their demographic and commuting characteristics and the issues they experience.
- Organise a Town Hall Focus Group (THFG) (or workshop) in each Faculty to (a) explore how the University's curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and feedback enable and challenge commuters and (b) 'imagine' (using appreciative inquiry) how inclusive practices could enhance commuter student engagement, belonging and success.
- Report data and inclusivity recommendations at Faculty and University levels.
