Co-construction of Evidence-Based Resources for Diversifying and Decolonising the Economics Curriculum
Department: Economics & Related Studies
Project Leads: Ruben Martinez-Cardenas, Yaprak Tavman
Summary
Diversifying and decolonising the economics curriculum (DDC) seeks to address the systemic biases embedded in traditional economic frameworks, which often marginalise minority groups and neglect perspectives from the Global South. However, attempts to share our work on DDC with academic staff revealed significant barriers to its adoption, including misinformation and a lack of awareness. This experience highlighted the need for a deeper investigation into the challenges hindering DDC implementation. Our project will engage students and staff in collecting and analysing data to pinpoint areas where misinformation about DDC is most pervasive. The project will gather information on attitudes and understanding of DDC, analyse this data to develop practical resources to support the creation of inclusive teaching materials and methods to foster meaningful curriculum reform.
