Bridging the Gap: Exploring Barriers to Learning and Assessment Literacy for Economics Students from Lower Socioeconomic Backgrounds
Department: Economics & Related Studies
Project Leads: Mathilde Peron, Michelle Barton, Yaprak Tavman, Nick Glover
Summary
The aim of this project is to investigate the barriers encountered by Economics students with regards to learning and assessment literacy, with particular emphasis on those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Furthermore, the project aims to enhance teaching staff's awareness of the often implicit areas of knowledge, as well as the skills, practices, and norms that students commonly find challenging and how they can address this through their teaching.
Two student partners will be recruited to design and lead activities with Economics students and teaching staff with two objectives: (1) to analyse risks to equality of opportunity in the Economics Department related to implicit knowledge, skills, practices, and norms; (2) to enhance awareness and encourage collaborative development of inclusive teaching practices.
