BAME Peer Mentoring in Politics and International Relations

Department: Politics & International Relations

Project Leads: Kieran Durkin, Jeremy Moulton

Summary

This proposed staff-student partnership project aims to gain a subject-specific understanding of students' perceptions of the need for, and mode of delivery of, potential BAME peer mentoring during the course of teaching and learning on undergraduate Politics and International Relations degrees. Through a series of workshops and focus groups with research participants - all of whom will be students in the University of York's Department of Politics and International Relations - the project will work to create a knowledge-base that will inform the department's ongoing effort to close awarding, continuation, and completion gaps. By encouraging peer-led and peer-to-peer approaches to skills development and facilitating the promotion of inclusion and belonging, the research speaks directly to the strategic themes of Student-led Learning Communities and Inclusive Curriculum and Pedagogies.
