Thriving at University while learning Physics - an online Course

Department: School of Physics, Engineering and Technology (PET)

Team: Clement Moissard (School of PET), Rachel Madison (Student Wellbeing Officer for the Maths Department and the School of PET), Sue Russell (Academic Skills Manager)

Summary

We want to help all undergraduate students thrive at University by making sure they all have access to the implicit knowledge surrounding University life. Thus, we propose the creation of an optional online course that will cover the basics of life skills (goal setting, habits, the importance of sleep, ...), the science of learning (retrieval, the importance of practice, ...) and specific ideas about how to think about physics (finding meaning in formulas, the role of and risks associated with imagination, ...). Student partners will be involved in gathering opinions from their cohorts, the choice of topics, the design of the course, and the actual recording of material. This course could later be expanded to other departments.
