Practise what we preach - co-creating an interdisciplinary module about public involvement in research
Department: Health Sciences
Team: Jennifer Brown, Sue Faulds
Summary
Across many disciplines, equitable and meaningful involvement of the public is increasingly recognised as a hallmark of ethical and sustainable research. Skills, knowledge, and competencies in public involvement are key prerequisites for a successful research career. At the University of York, there is currently no evidence-based, interdisciplinary teaching provision available in this important subject. To address this gap, we propose to co-design, with academic and research staff, students, and members of the public, a new interdisciplinary, cross-faculty module about public involvement in research. Content, delivery, and assessments will be iteratively and collaboratively co-designed, ready for module approval and further development.
