The benefits of co-construction: a new PBL module

Department: Language & Linguistic Science

Project Leads: Julia Kolkmann, Sam Hellmuth

Summary

This project was designed to support the adoption of problem-based learning (PBL) in a new core first year module in Language and Linguistic Science: Understanding Language in the Real World (commenced Semester 1 2023-24). The aims of the project were focused around 3 strands of co-creation with 3 student partners:

  • The development of a bank of training materials for PBL facilitators (for ongoing use);
  • Co-creation with students of a student-facing PBL Handbook (new for Language & Linguistic Science; amended for Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre);
  • Co-design of a new 'induction problem' to use at the start of teaching, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC) Team.
