Important information for staff on student wellbeing support

News

Posted on Wednesday 19 November 2025

Please read if you currently signpost students to wellbeing support. Earlier this year, we undertook a review of our student wellbeing services and College offer to ensure we’re providing an inclusive, supportive and safe community for all student members.

Our wellbeing services include all the ways in which we support the mental health and physical and social wellbeing of our students.

We are currently communicating these changes to students and updating information online. There is no reduction to wellbeing support staff numbers as a consequence of these changes.

Background

  • The review, which began in May 2025, confirmed we have outstanding staff, doing quality work but our structures, systems and processes are creating issues. Read more about the review findings and recommendations.
  • We are now introducing some changes to re-focus our College teams and evolve how students access wellbeing support, making it simpler for all students to access support, whether they live in a College on campus, or off campus.

Changes to how you signpost students to wellbeing support

From Monday 1 December 2025:

1. College Communities teams for community

Our new College Communities teams will focus on providing a quality college experience for members. This will help build a sense of community, continuity and belonging for all College members, regardless of their year of study or whether they live in the College or not.

These new teams will dedicate their time to proactive student engagement, College initiatives and community building, but will no longer be the first point of contact for individual student wellbeing enquiries.

Locations for support will also be moving. Please don’t send students to visit their College offices for “walk-in” wellbeing support. To help communicate this change, details of how to access wellbeing support will be placed outside all offices and is also available online.

2. The Student Hub for wellbeing

The Student Hub will become the central point of contact for all wellbeing support needs.

College Wellbeing Officers will now be accessed through the Student Hub. Centralising access to support at the Student Hub will help to make it clearer how all students access support, whether they live in a College or off campus, and provide a more consistent experience.

Student Wellbeing Officers within academic departments remain in place, working in partnership with the Student Hub.

As a reminder, the Hub provides assistance with:

  • Wellbeing and mental health issues
  • Managing money
  • Private housing
  • Disability support

Contact details for support from 1 December 2025

  • Staff should signpost students to Student Wellbeing Officers in the Student Hub or academic department for any wellbeing needs. Use the Open Door referral form specifically for Mental Health support.
  • Students (and staff) can call the hub on 01904 32 4140, visit in person in Sally Baldwin Block D, or contact them through the online referral form for general wellbeing issues.
