Light up, be seen and stay safe

Cyclists - claim your free high-visibility vests, bike lights, and slap wrap arm reflectors on Thursday 27 November, 4pm to 6pm.

As the evenings draw in, visibility on the roads becomes even more important. The Highway Code requires cyclists to have a white front light and a red rear light at night; failure to comply can result in an on-the-spot fine. Bikes must also be fitted with a red rear reflector and amber pedal reflectors.

Claim your free gear

The Travel and Transport Team will be distributing free high-visibility vests, bike lights, and slap wrap reflectors (while supplies last) on Thursday 27 November 2025, at Field Lane crossroads (traffic lights near Heslington Church, between Campus East and West) from 4pm to 6pm.

If you’re a cyclist and don’t yet have cycle safety gear, please come along and see us. No bookings needed.

You may also see local police officers at the event - they’re volunteering their time to help hand out safety advice and free equipment. They’re there to support the cycling community and help everyone stay safe on the roads.

Bike Doctor

The University's Bike Doctor, Richard, will also be around to answer any questions about the regular on-campus cycle repair sessions.
