About us

We have expertise in a range of quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches and a variety of study designs. These include quasi-experimental studies of outcomes for children, RCTs and participatory, peer research and co-production techniques that ensure that the voices of children and young people remain central to our research which includes:

  • children and adolescents within the child protection system
  • young people leaving care for independent adulthood
  • children looked after in foster and residential care
  • adolescents on the edge of care or returning home from care
  • adoption and special guardianship
  • unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in foster care

The CWRG is committed to working with policy makers, practitioners, academic colleagues and young people to improve services, support and outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

We have contributed to government select committees and expert working groups, national and international advisory and steering groups, social policy and social work teaching and running skills development workshops for care experienced young people.
