On June 19th 2012 the Olympic torch relay passed through York. To mark this historic occasion the Research Development Tteam provided researchers with an opportunity to present their research to a lay audience and ‘pass on the baton’ of research to the next generation. This took the form of a 3 minute pitch about the impact of their research.

Ten PhD students were selected to take part in the finals of this exciting competition from a range of disciplines. Jennifer Reynolds – Department of Sociology, was one of the finalists.

In celebration of enterprise and entrepreneurship, the ‘Relaying your Research’ 3 minute thesis competition forms part of York Enterprise 2012: Ready, steady, GROW . This grand event provided an excellent opportunity to hear from leading UK entrepreneurs, participate in a range of business seminars and meet the finalists of the National University Entrepreneur 2012 competition.

The students presented to members of the public and local schools, and the judging panel included representatives from industry, employers, media representatives, academics and alumni who selected an overall winner.
