Poverty remains one of the most pressing policy challenges facing the UK. Local and regional government are increasingly on the front line of the response. As English devolution gathers pace, local authorities, combined authorities, metro mayors and the local ecosystem of organisations they work with have a growing role to play in shaping the conditions that drive hardship.
This session brings together policymakers, practitioners and researchers to examine how local and regional government can lead the fight against poverty. Drawing on the latest evidence, the panel will explore what works, where the barriers lie, and how national and local government can work in partnership to make a lasting difference to the places and people most affected.
