The Social Change Catalyst Blog for May 2026, comes from, Nina Caspersen, Professor of Comparative Politics and the Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Nina's blog which is titled "Researching and Teaching Peace in Times of War – Promoting Social Change amidst Global Disorder" is a timely examination of a world where "warfare is increasingly seen as a legitimate policy instrument, and belligerent leaders act with expectations of impunity".

The blog makes the case that universities and academics are uniquely positioned to not only make sense of our rapidly changing world, but also to help shape it through academic initiatives such as The Peace Lab.

Part of a rapidly expanding Global Peace Labs Network, the York Peace Lab was launched with the explicit aim of designing and implementing innovative approaches to sustainable peace, seeking to find better, evidence-based ways to prevent violence and reduce human suffering as a result of war.
