CITY College, University of York Europe Campus opens to new students

The first cohort of students have started at the new CITY College, University of York Europe Campus
The partnership will see York awarding degrees across a range of subject areas

Students have started at the campus, based in Thessaloniki, Greece, on a range of courses, including Business Studies, Marketing, Neuropsychology, Computer Science, Human Resources, English Language Linguistics and Literature and many more.

CITY College offers undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, and doctoral programmes, leading to University of York degrees.

With four academic departments (Business Administration & Economics, Psychology Department, Computer Science, and English Studies), students are offered a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Strategic response

The partnership builds on York’s strategic response to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and reflects its ambition to build innovative partnerships with European institutions.

The University of York’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charlie Jeffery said: "We are delighted to welcome our newest cohort of students at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus to the wider University of York community.

"The University of York’s founding principle is to further public good and, in our partnership with CITY College, we are part of an endeavour that seeks to contribute to the development of people, societies, and economies, extending opportunity in Europe and beyond."

Global citizens

Yannis Ververidis, President and Principal at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, said: "We are delighted to welcome the first cohort of CITY College, University of York Europe Campus students. This academic year marks a major milestone for us as we embark on a new era as part of the University of York community. 

"We are committed to offering students from across the region a top-quality education and providing a holistic academic experience, empowering them to access the many exciting opportunities that are available to them. We aim to develop our students so that they become University of York graduates who are well-educated, responsible global citizens fully prepared for challenges of the real world.”

New starters

Christine Charitidou, a new student at the Europe campus, said
"I couldn't wait to start my university studies and meet new people. This first week has been great, the environment is amazing, the lecturers are very talented and overall I am optimistic for my following years at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus!" 

Another new starter, Patrik Krasniqi, said: “From the first day I came to CITY College Europe Campus I was greeted by very welcoming staff. All the activities during my first week helped me settle in smoothly and make many new friends here. The first days exceeded my expectations. I am ready and looking forward to my first year of studies at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus!”

A third new student, Georgina Gjorcheska, said: "I was anxious about starting studies in another country but the staff at CITY College, University of York Europe Campus has been super helpful with the entire process! The induction week has made me very motivated to start classes!"
