This lecture will seek to place Putin's war in Ukraine in it's long and short term historical context. It will seek to understand the reasons behind President Putin's decision to launch the war and will offer some suggestions of the likely consequences of the war for Ukraine, Russia and the West.

Shane O'Rourke is a historian of Russia and has spent much time in both Ukraine and Russia over the previous decades.
