Tuesday 19 November 2019, 10.30AM to 12.00pm
An introduction to the musical instruments of a Tibetan monastery and the use of the chant in the traditional prayers. Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is one of Tibet’s oldest teaching establishments. Now based in exile in South India, the monks still follow the same traditions as their predecessors with their daily prayers and study. Although there is a system of musical notation, theirs is mostly an oral tradition with the knowledge being passed down through generations of teachers to their students. The workshop takes place prior to the monks’ evening performance on Tues 19th November.
Location: National Centre for Early Music, Walmgate, York
