Who we are

The York-Maastricht Partnership is supported by a small team of staff based in York and Maastricht.

Katherine Benson

Head of the York-Maastricht Partnership, University of York

Katherine Benson became Head of the York-Maastricht Partnership in 2020, after joining the University of York as a Global Partnerships Manager in 2017.

Her role at YMP builds on her experience of working to expand York’s global engagement through developing new research, teaching, and capacity building partnerships.

Before joining the University of York, Katherine worked at the International Strategy Office at the University of Oxford and has a background in research and teaching at several UK universities and with NGOs in the UK and Middle East. Katherine has a PhD in Medieval History from the University of Reading and MA from the University of York.

Rosa Becker

Local YMP Coordinator, Maastricht University

Rosa joined Maastricht University (UM) in June 2020 as Senior Policy Advisor Internationalisation at the Department of Academic Affairs. At UM, she is the local coordinator for the York-Maastricht Partnership. Her previous work includes research posts at the University of London, Universities UK, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Nuffic.

Rosa holds a PhD in Comparative Higher Education from the Institute of Education University of London (now part of UCL) and a Masters in Educational Sciences from the University of Groningen.

Annemarie van Zeijl-Rozema

Project Manager, Maastricht University

Annemarie joined the York-Maastricht Partnership in January 2021.  She is leading on the Dutch accreditation application for the YMP’s first masters programme, SUBLIM. Annemarie is the educational portfolio leader of the Maastricht Sustainability Institute (MSI), part of the School of Business & Economics. She is active in teaching sustainability-related courses at Maastricht University and participates in research projects on sustainability transformation of higher education institutes and on the social side of energy retrofitting of the built environment.

Annemarie has a PhD in Sustainability Science from Maastricht University and an MSc in Tropical Land Use from Wageningen University. She worked for several years as project coordinator and spent four years working for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization before joining Maastricht University in 2004.

Jayne Blizzard

Administration Coordinator, University of York

Jayne joined the University of York in January 2020 with a large part of her role being to support the York-Maastricht Partnership. Previously she worked within the NHS supporting and leading various projects and collaborations across different organisations and before that held various roles at a diverse range of companies within the private sector.
