Who we are

The York-Maastricht Partnership (YMP) is a major strategic investment between the universities of York and Maastricht.

Ian Wiggins

Director of the York-Maastricht Partnership

Ian became Director of the York-Maastricht Partnership in 2019. Before that, Ian was Senior Executive Officer and Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Department at the University of York.

Before joining the University of York, Ian worked in a number of roles for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He spent time posted in Washington DC, where he was Deputy Head of the British Embassy’s Political Section, and in Moscow where he worked on Economic issues. Ian has a degree in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham and got his first taste of HE policy as General Secretary of the University of Nottingham Students’ Union.

The Partnership’s five research themes are led by academics from both universities:

Food & Health: Professor Karen Bloor and Professor Annemie Schols

Global South: Professor Henrice Altink, Professor Rob Marchant and Professor Valentina Mazzucato

Future of Europe: Dr Kathryn Wright and Professor John Parkinson
