Project poster: How can teachers in Japanese language education help learners to develop their communication competence?
The event is the first workshop-style seminar in the series and will take place on Sunday 14 February 2021 at 12.00 via Zoom.
Seminar 1. OJAEアセスメント法を体感 - Experience the OJAE assessment
What do we as teachers expect to hear from learners and how do we assess them during the speaking test? This has been traditionally achieved through pattern practice and role plays whereby learners are expected to utter the ‘correct’ answers.
In the first session, participants will undertake a pre-session task and be challenged to consider the theory and the practice of ‘CEFR compliant”. After experiencing and observing the Oral Japanese Assessment Europe (OJAE) assessment method at A2 and B2 levels, participants in a small group setting will attempt to assess learners using some model videos. This will then lead to the next session of analysing and evaluating the trial assessment. With the special support of the OJAE team the participants will contemplate what ‘dialogue’ means and the roles of teachers in language education. The content of the seminar may slightly change, depending on participants' needs.

The seminar is for all Japanese language educators in the UK and beyond. It will be conducted in Japanese.
