YorCCA 2026: York Conference on Conversation Analysis
Event details
The York Conference on Conversation Analysis (YorCCA) returns on 17 and 18 July 2026, organised by PhD researchers in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York and affiliated with the Centre for Advanced Studies in Language and Communication.
YorCCA offers a welcoming environment for PhD researchers to present their work to peers and established academics and to receive feedback as they develop their projects. The main conference on Friday 17 July features two invited speakers alongside presentations from PhD researchers. Talks take place in person and are streamed online for those who cannot attend on campus.
This year's invited speakers are Professor Ana Cristina Ostermann (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) and Professor Richard Ogden (University of York).
On Saturday 18 July, in-person attendees can register for one of two optional skills workshops led by the invited speakers. Professor Ostermann will lead a session on building collections and describing actions in health interactions, working with original recordings and transcripts of telephone calls in critical care settings. Professor Ogden will offer an introduction to the phonetics of talk-in-interaction, focused on listening, observing and describing.
Registration is open via the University of York online store and closes at 17:00 BST on 15 July 2026. In-person attendance including a workshop costs £40, in-person conference only costs £20, and online attendance costs £10.
YorCCA 2026 is supported by the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Events Fund from the Humanities Research Centre at the University of York.
