Event details

In this seminar, I will provide an overview of the current state of third language (L3) acquisition research and explore potential directions for moving beyond the traditional focus on transfer. The first part will present key developments in the field, alongside preliminary findings from our ongoing update of the L3 existing systematic review (Puig-Mayenco et al., 2020). In the second part, I will introduce an ongoing experimental project investigating the processing of negative concord in L1 and L2 English as a foundation for a subsequent study on L3 Spanish. I will present the results obtained so far for L1/L2 English and discuss the design and predictions for the planned L3 study. Together, these two parts aim to highlight current trends and future directions in L3 acquisition research.
