Update on the marking and assessment boycott for Summer 2023 finalists

Email from Charlie Jeffery, Vice Chancellor, to Summer 2023 finalists affected by the marking boycott.

Dear all,

Some of you may have heard that the University and College Union (UCU) has now called off the marking and assessment boycott, which is very welcome news indeed.

The national negotiations continue, but we are now working with Departments to prioritise marking and progress any delayed results as quickly as possible.

For those of you who don’t yet have your degree or final degree classification because of this marking boycott, we are deeply sorry.

I’m afraid - unless your Department has advised you otherwise - that we aren’t yet in a position to give you a definitive date of when you may receive your final degree award letters.

Whilst we are working for this to be as soon as possible, it may still take time to balance getting marking done now the boycott has ended with delivering teaching at the start of  the new academic year. We also plan to use this semester’s Consolidation Week (w/c 30 October) as a further opportunity to finish off marking.

We know how much disruption, concern and anger this marking and assessment boycott has caused you, and we will not stop in our efforts to get you your final outcome.

With best wishes

Charlie Jeffery
President and Vice-Chancellor
