Update 9 November 2022
The national University and College Union (UCU) has announced that a round of industrial action will take place in universities across the UK in the form of three days of strike action in addition to the ongoing action short of a strike.
Strike dates announced are as follows:
- Thursday 24 to Friday 25 November (two days)
- Wednesday 30 November
The action short of a strike is intended to be continuous and will start on Wednesday 23 November 2022 and will finish no later than Thursday 20 April 2023. This includes:
- working contracted hours and duties and not volunteering to do more;
- not rescheduling classes and lectures cancelled due to strike action;
- not covering for absent colleagues.
The industrial action is in response to disputes concerning pay and conditions, and proposed changes to the USS pension.
We recognise that the decision to take industrial action is not taken lightly and we respect colleagues' right to take part. We also understand that students will be concerned about the potential impact on their studies.
Our priority is making sure we have the right support and procedures in place and we are working across academic and support departments to minimise the impact on students and to mitigate any lost learning opportunities as a result of the action taken to date.
