Liz Prettejohn will speak on"The Future of Winckelmann's Classical Form: Walter Pater and Frederic Leighton" in Halle, Germany on Tuesday 6th June.

Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768), whose 300th birthday is celebrated this year, is one of the most influential German-speaking authors of the 18th century. Whether as the founder of modern art history and archeology, as a pioneer of German classicism or as a virtuoso of the art description, the impulses which have emerged from him are as numerous as the disciplines that appeal to him.
