BA English Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries for 2019/20

The Department of English and Related Literature is delighted to announce a range of scholarships and bursaries in the following three categories for newly-enrolled undergraduate students of English Literature (Q300) in the academic year 2019/20. These awards are limited to one per student.

Academic Excellence Scholarships for Home/EU English Literature students

We are pleased to confirm that £1,000 Academic Excellence Scholarships, which are designed to recognise and reward academic achievement, will be available to incoming students starting their course in September 2019. These scholarships will be awarded to newly-enrolled undergraduate students of English Literature (Q300) in 2019/20 who achieve an A* in English Literature/English Language and Literature or an A* in an English Literature EPQ, who have met or exceeded the terms of our standard offer (AAA or A*AB), and who have made York their Firm choice by 1 May 2019. Cambridge Pre-U and IB students with equivalent results are also eligible.

Please note that these Academic Excellence Scholarships are payable at the beginning of your second term of study as a Home/EU student of English (Q300) in the Department of English and Related Literature. The scholarships will be presented at the beginning of Spring Term 2020.

Ten International Scholarship Awards for Overseas English Literature students

We are pleased to offer ten International Scholarship Awards of £1,000 each to newly-enrolled Overseas undergraduate students of English Literature (Q300) in 2019/20. This award recognises the academic excellence of your application by offering a scholarship during your first year of study if you make English Literature your firm choice and take up your place to study at the University of York. To be eligible, you must be:

  • Paying fees at the overseas rate for the three years of your degree course
  • Studying single subject English Literature (Q300)
  • A 2019/20 UCAS applicant, starting your course in September 2019

The award will be based on your academic record up to and including A-level, or equivalent. Other performance indicators may also contribute to the decision of our assessors. There is no need to submit a formal application; all eligible applicants will be considered automatically.

Please note that the award is payable at the beginning of your second term of study as an Overseas (non-UK/EU) student of English Literature in the Department of English and Related Literature. International Scholarship Awards will be presented at the beginning of Spring Term 2020.

BA English Widening Participation Bursaries

The Department of English and Related Literature is proud to announce that three Widening Participation Bursaries will be awarded to newly-enrolled undergraduate students of English Literature (Q300) in the academic year 2019/20. Please note that each bursary is payable at the beginning of your second term of study as a Home/EU student of English Literature in the Department of English and Related Literature.

BA English Widening Participation Bursary

The BA English Widening Participation Bursary of £1,000 will be awarded to a newly-enrolled Home/EU undergraduate student for English Literature (Q300). To qualify, you must be a recipient of the York Bursary 2019/20. Successful Home/EU students who meet the University’s financial eligibility criteria will be considered automatically. Our assessors will consider your academic record up to and including A-level, or equivalent. Other performance indicators may also contribute to the decision. BA English Yorkshire Bursary

We are delighted to announce a new BA English Yorkshire Bursary of £1,000 for 2019/20. The bursary will be awarded to a newly-enrolled Home/EU undergraduate student for English Literature (Q300) in 2019/20 whose permanent home is in Yorkshire. Our assessors will consider your academic record up to and including A-level, or equivalent, as well as other indicators. Priority will be given to BME candidates, students from low income families, and those who are the first members of their family to go to university. BA English Access Bursary

The BA English Access Bursary of £1,000 will be awarded to a newly-enrolled Home/EU undergraduate student for English Literature (Q300) in 2019/20 from one of the following under-represented groups:

  • Mature students with dependents
  • Students estranged from their families
  • Students from low-income military or traveller families

Successful Home/EU students who meet the University’s financial eligibility criteria will be considered automatically. Our assessors will consider your academic record up to and including A-level, or equivalent. Other performance indicators may also contribute to the decision.
