University research themes

At York, researchers collaborate across the University's seven interdisciplinary research themes to address the great scientific, social and environmental challenges of our times.

Our research is particularly strong in three themes: Culture and Communication, Creativity and Justice and Equality.

Culture and Communication

We apply our research into literary production, editorial practice, film and performance to enrich cultural life and bring literature and performance to new audiences. Our location in York, at the heart of multicultural Yorkshire, presents a wealth of opportunities for us to act as go-betweens from the local to the metropolitan and the global.

Creativity

The creative industries are one of the UK’s leading sectors, as well as being socially important. We work in partnership with leading names in the creative, cultural and heritage sectors to maximise the economic and social benefits of their work.
