Black History Month - Literary Salon

Wednesday 27 October 2021, 3.00PM to 4.30pm

We invite student and staff participants from any department at York to take part in a literary salon to celebrate the work of Black writers. We encourage students to think across literary and historical periods as well as across national and linguistic boundaries. We welcome participants from outside the English department.

During our celebration, we will share and discuss poetry and short passages of prose by authors from the African Diaspora in honour of Black History Month in the UK. We will consider the rich literary history of Black authors writing in Britain and beyond, and we will discuss how and why time-honoured classics and contemporary masterpieces alike bring us profound inspiration in our current moment. Please bring a poem or short passage of your choosing. We will share and discuss as many as possible while enjoying food and drink together.

All are welcome!

Location: Leavis Room (D/J/137, Derwent)
