Academic Freedom After Neoliberalism

Thomas Docherty has published on most areas of English and comparative literature from the Renaissance to the present day. He specialises in the philosophy of literary criticism, in critical theory, and in cultural history in relation primarily to European philosophy and literatures. Recent work has been done on matters of cultural policy related to international higher education. He is working on a series of new books: 1) on Conditions of Democracy; 2) on Modern Violence; 3) on Commitment and Complicity.

His most recent book-length publications include:
  • Universities at War (Sage, 2014)
  • Confessions: the Philosophy of Transparency (Bloomsbury 2012)
  • For the University (Bloomsbury 2011)

You might also recognise his name from his contributions to the Times Higher Education (THE) in recent years.

 
This event is free and open to all - staff, students and those beyond the university interested in debates about education.  Seats will be first come first seated (with no reservations).
 
Professor Thomas Docherty will be speaking as part of the 'Freedom After Neoliberalism' project led by Dr Adam Kelly (York) and Dr Alex Beaumont (York St John).
