Publication News: 'The Art of Walking in London'
Warm congratulations to Dr Alison O'Byrne on the publication of her monograph 'The Art of Walking in London: Representing the Eighteenth-Century City, 1700–1830'.

The Art of Walking in London: Representing the Eighteenth-Century City, 1700-1830 considers what representations of urban pedestrianism can tell us about how the metropolis was imagined and experienced - by writers and artists, visitors and inhabitants - during this period. It explores the various early eighteenth-century works that established influential models for representing the city, accounts of promenading in St. James's Park, guidebooks for tourists, popular surveys of the cheats and frauds uncovered on nocturnal rambles, and comic explorations of the pleasures and pitfalls of living in a crowded and bustling city.
