A new exhibition 'Inspired by Italy' at Beningbrough Hall (an 18th century National Trust property just outside of York) features brilliant creative work from a number of students in the department.

Over the summer, students were invited to write creative responses to Yorkshire-based photographer Kate Somervell's stunning black and white images of Venice for the Inspired by Italy exhibition. Professor Chloe Wigston Smith led the collaboration with NT curator Laura Turner, and Dr Maya Caspari also helped to judge the entries.

The poetry and prose of Arundhathi Anil, Sophia Ash, Emma Burton, Ives Cappato, Josh Davey, Dora Gawn-Hopkins, Eden Hartley, Jess Herbert, Anishka Kataria, Harry Strange, and Merryn Summergill are included in the exhibition, and Emma Burton, Ives Cappato, Eden Hartley, Anishka Kataria, and Harry Strange all contributed to the magnetic poetry that will inspire visitors to make their own creative responses.

The exhibition is the first to feature at Beningbrough's new Reddihough Galleries and runs until 17 March, 2024. The number 29 bus runs from York to Newton-on-Ouse, and stops a mile from the property.
