IET Accreditation

All the courses at York have been accredited as approved training by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and we were recently awarded both maximum scores and recognition for 25 years of accreditation.

BEng or MEng Honours Degree courses, in contrast to ordinary BSc or MSc courses, are those which have been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). BEng stands for Bachelor of Engineering and MEng stands for Master of Engineering - as it incorporates a Master's degree within the qualification.

An accredited course is one which the IET counts as forming an acceptable part of the training requirements for Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. Graduates with good degree results are automatically eligible to become Associate Members of the IET and become full members after gaining industrial experience. Only MEng courses now meet the requirements in full for Chartered Engineer and Euro Ing status.
