This paper analyses the convergence of the output per capita in the autonomous communities of Spain over the period 1955-2016. In order to converge the series should cointegrate. This necessary condition is checked using two testing strategies for fractional cointegration recently proposed, finding no evidence of cointegration, which rules out the possibility of convergence. As an additional contribution, an extension of the critical values of one of the tests are also provided for different number of variables and sample sizes to those originally provided by the proposing authors, fitting to those considered in this paper.
