The CDH Supports Heritage Jam 2015

September sees the second annual Heritage Jam at the University of York. The Centre for Digital Heritage has been supporting the event since it began in 2014.

This year, our Centre for Digital Heritage PhD student, Tara Copplestone, has been working alongside current Cultural Heritage Management MA student, Izzy Bartley, to plan and promote the event.

Taking Part

The Heritage Jam is already taking place, running as an online event until the 24th September. As well as the opportunity to participate online, you can also come along to the University of York on the 25th and 26th September and join in. The Heritage Jam is themed around museums and collections this year, and the University of York team have been collaborating with York Museums Trust's Yorkshire Museum to support the development of visualisations of heritage.

If you'd like to participate in the Heritage Jam, you can sign up on the website.

CDH Student Experience

We asked Tara to provide us with an insight into what it was like working on the Heritage Jam event.‌

‌Having competed in the 2014 Heritage Jam I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to take on an organisational and coordination role for the 2015 Jam. ‌‌The key focus of this year has been to grow the community of jammers by updating the website and engaging through social media.

Working alongside our fabulous social-media manager, Izzy Bartley, we have successfully engaged almost double the number of people from last year, using a strategy of targeted newsletters, website development, twitter updates, blogs and facebook posts. It has been a fantastic experience working in such a friendly, innovative team to develop the 2015 Heritage Jam.

We look forward to seeing what our jammers produce this year and also to growing the Heritage Jam community further for 2016.

Good luck to all of the competitors in the Jam! We can't wait to see the submissions.
