CRD is pleased to welcome Professor Beth Devine as its new Director and Professor of Evidence Synthesis, joining us from the University of Washington, Seattle.

The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) is delighted to welcome Professor Beth Devine, who took up her post as Head of Department and Professor of Evidence Synthesis in summer 2026.

Professor Devine joins the University of York from the Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics (CHOICE) Institute in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she is Professor Emerita. She brings a wealth of experience in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR).

Her research focuses on evidence synthesis, in particular meta-analysis and network meta-analysis. It covers therapeutic areas as diverse as immunotherapeutics, sickle cell disease, deprescribing in older adults, and health information exchange. She is currently assessing study-level risk of bias and estimating quantitative bias adjustment parameters for inclusion in network meta-analyses. She is also co-founder and a member of the leadership team of the LATITUDES Network, a web-based library of validity tools for assessing bias in studies included in evidence synthesis projects. She has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been funded by bodies including the NIH and the life sciences industry.

Professor Devine has long been a leader in ISPOR – the Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research. She is currently ISPOR President (2026–2027) and is an Associate Editor of its flagship journal, Value in Health. She is also an elected member of the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology, and from 2014 to 2025 was the University of Washington site principal investigator for the Pacific Northwest Evidence-based Practice Center. She has strong links with the UK and Europe, having been a Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol and a Fulbright US Scholar and Honorary Professor at the University of Murcia, Spain.

Professor Devine said:

“I am deeply honoured to take on this leadership role at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York. CRD is home to an outstanding group of investigators who conduct world-class, impactful evidence syntheses, and I am thrilled to be leading such a talented team into our next chapter.”

We look forward to working with Professor Devine as CRD enters its next chapter.
