Our Evidence Synthesis Centre has published an evidence summary as a tool for authors of organisational case studies. The reporting standards outline the broad requirements for rigorous reporting without restriction on methodological freedom.

A CRD methodological study has just been published in BMC Health Services Research which describes the particular challenges faced when undertaking randomised trials which compare the benefits of receiving treatment in different healthcare settings - such as outpatient wards, community healthcare facilities or home treatment.

We are seeking views from authors about using information from regulatory documents such as Clinical Study Reports (CSRs) in their systematic reviews. We have already surveyed Cochrane review authors and are now seeking the views of non-Cochrane review authors. The survey is part of project aimed at developing guidance for including data from regulatory documents in systematic reviews.

Surgical patients are at an increased risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Anti-embolism stockings, used alongside pharmacological prophylaxis, reduce morbidity, mortality and health service costs in patients at risk. Anti-embolism stockings are available as thigh length or knee length stockings. A systematic review was undertaken to compare the clinical effectiveness of thigh length versus knee length anti-embolism stockings for the prevention of DVT in surgical patients.

A new Cochrane review on the use of topical emollients for preventing infection in preterm infants has just been published. The systematic review was conducted by CRD staff members Bill McGuire, Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health and Jess Morgan, Clinical Research Fellow.

CRD have recently begun work on a new NIHR funded systematic review and value of information analysis on treatments for the management of hyperhidrosis. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Health & Society, Newcastle University.
