The PICNICC model is a system for doctors to determine the risk of serious infection when children who are undergoing cancer treatment present unwell with fever. We are pleased to announce that the model is now to undergo assessment in Australia.
Drs Karin Thursky and Gabrielle Haeusleur, from Melbourne, Australia, have joined with Dr Bob Phillips and received a grant from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to study the system and if valid, implement into routine practice.
"We're delighted that this project is underway" said Dr Phillips, "as it moves the initial project towards clinical practice and dovetails brilliantly with the NIHR project which is undertaking similar work in the UK".
