Posted on 19 November 2018

Centre for Housing Policy researchers presented their work at the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Conference, covering topics such as ending homelessness and gender inequalities.

Dr Joanne Bretherton and Nicholas Pleace from the University of York's Centre for Housing Policy, spoke at the 2018 Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Annual Conference (CAEH), in Hamilton, Ontario. One of the largest conferences on homelessness held anywhere in the World, the annual CAEH conference is an opportunity for policy makers, service providers and academics working on homeless to meet and exchange ideas, with a strong international dimension being a part of the proceedings.

Dr Bretherton's session 'Women's Homelessness in Europe: Lessons for Canada?' focused on her pan European work with the Women's Homelessness in Europe Network (WHEN) and her work around gender inequalities, domestic violence and women's experiences of homelessness in the UK.

Nicholas Pleace presented work on Housing First in Europe, including the Housing First Guide Europe and with colleagues from Finland, presented and discussed progress in Europe towards achieving a functional zero in homelessness.
