Posted on 3 February 2017

The department's continued work with the FEANTSA has led to an international profile in the field of homelessness.

The Centre for Housing Policy within the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at York is celebrating a ten year working relationship as part of the European Observatory on Homelessness, which operates under the auspices of FEANTSA  (Fédération Européenne d'Associations Nationales Travaillant avec les Sans-Abri) the European Federation of Homelessness Organisations (http://www.feantsa.org/en).  CHP researchers have formed  part of the core research team since 2007 and have sat on the Editorial  Committee of the European Journal of Homelessness since it first began publication in 2007.

A special tenth anniversary edition of the European  Journal of Homelessness (number 10.3) has just been published and features a new paper by Nicholas Pleace at CHP, 'Researching Homelessness in Europe Theoretical Perspectives' (http://www.feantsaresearch.org/spip.php?article400).  Nicholas adds:

"Our decade of work with FEANTSA has given CHP and the wider SPSW department an international profile in the fields of homelessness and housing exclusion research.  Our work has benefitted practically, theoretically and methodologically through our relationship with FEANTSA, strengthening the academic and policy research we conduct in the UK and creating new opportunities that have included research for DIHAL, the French interministerial body with responsibility for homelessness policy, the Finnish Government, the Norweigan Housing Bank, major homelessness service providers in France and Ireland, OECD and the European Commission."

CHP looks forward to a continuing working relationship with FEANTSA and our fellow European homelessness  researchers over the next decade.
