JRF Evidence Review on Housing and Poverty

Posted on 29 March 2012

A new look at the links between housing and poverty

The review will examine existing quantitative and qualitative evidence on the relationship between housing and poverty, drawing mainly on studies from the UK. It will explore the relationship between households' housing circumstances and the incidence of poverty and the way in which poverty is experienced. It will compare the relative importance of housing cost, quality and locale in alleviating (or exacerbating) the impact of poverty, and will examine the role lower-cost housing plays in incentivising work (or creating barriers to work). The project involves several members of the CHP staff. It is due to report in September 2012.

The team would be pleased to hear from researchers about any relevant but as yet unpublished work which they might be able to refer to in the review. chp@york.ac.uk
