Celebrating Technicians as Co-authors on Research Papers

Excellent technical support in Chemistry is absolutely key to the high-quality research we publish. In the last year over 30 publications have featured technical colleagues as co-authors, from across all our six major research themes.

The University of York was one of the founder members of ‘The Technician Commitment’, a sector-wide, UK-based initiative backed by the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation aiming to recognise and develop the skills of technical staff.

As a department, we are therefore increasing the visibility and acknowledgment of the key role our technicians play in our Department’s success, whether that is as co-authors on papers, providing expert analytical support, or keeping our laboratories and research groups running smoothly.

We recently collated the contribution of technicians to recent research papers published within the Department and were delighted to find technical staff being routinely included as co-authors. A selection of those papers are listed below, from the following co-authors:
