Advance your skills in decision modelling for health economic evaluation
Posted on Friday 22 May 2026
The demand for robust, evidence-based decision-making in healthcare continues to grow globally. To meet this need, the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) at the University of York, in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is offering its 6-week online Decision Modelling for Health Economic Evaluation Advanced Short Course 2026.
Running from Monday 8 June to Friday 17 July 2026, this course is designed to help health economists and health professionals move beyond foundational modelling techniques and develop the ability to build and interpret more complex decision-analytic models. It supports participants in applying advanced methods to address uncertainty, incorporate survival data, and generate robust evidence to inform healthcare decision-making and policy.
Who is it for?
The course is aimed at health economists and health professionals with experience in health economics who wish to develop their understanding of recent methodological developments in cost-effectiveness analysis. It is designed for participants who are already familiar with basic decision modelling and want to progress to more advanced modelling methods. It is particularly suitable for those who have completed our Foundation Course in Modelling Methods for Health Economic Evaluation, and for those currently engaged in modelling for health economic evaluation in their work.
What will you learn?
- Over six weeks, participants will develop advanced practical skills in health economic modelling, including:
- Building and populating Markov models with time-dependent probabilities using parametric survival analysis
- Developing probabilistic models to reflect parameter uncertainty and running Monte Carlo simulations
- Presenting results using net monetary benefit and cost-effectiveness acceptability curves
- Assessing the expected value of perfect information (EVPI)
Teaching methods
The course combines flexible online learning with weekly live Q&A sessions and interactive discussion boards, allowing participants to engage with expert tutors and peers while learning at their own pace.
Participants may choose between Excel or R-based exercise tracks, providing hands-on experience in advanced model building and analysis.
Prices
The Private/Commercial Rate for this course is £1,450 per student.
The Academic/Public Sector Rate for this course is £995 per student.
