X is a human rights practitioner from Southeast Asia with a background in protection, documentation, and international advocacy. Their work focuses on supporting human rights defenders at risk and prisoners of conscience, particularly those facing arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment, enforced disappearance, transnational repression, and other restrictions on their fundamental freedoms. X also co-founded initiatives that use storytelling and other accessible forms of human rights communication to portray lives of political prisoners and their families in ways that resonate with broader public audiences and challenge government's demonizing narratives.

As X’s work can expose them to security risks and potential reprisals, they need to limit identifying information in public materials to protect both themselves and those they work with.

During their participation in the Protective Fellowship Scheme for Human Rights Defenders at the Centre for Applied Human Rights, University of York, X will work on a project that supports human rights defenders in exile across Southeast Asia who are subjected to transnational repression.
