Keti, Georgia

Keti is a human rights lawyer from Georgia, specialising in strategic litigation before the European Court of Human Rights. Through her work with civil society, she has represented individuals and organisations in cases concerning fundamental freedoms and the protection of civic space. Her cases have included alleged ill-treatment and unlawful detention of protesters, and the use of facial recognition technology to identify participants in public assemblies.

In light of democratic backsliding in Georgia, marked by a crackdown on civil society organisations, independent media and dissent, she believes international human rights mechanisms remain an essential safeguard when domestic remedies fall short.

During her Protective Fellowship at the Centre for Applied Human Rights, she is researching how quickly and effectively the European Court of Human Rights responds to restrictions on civil society organisations and human rights defenders, drawing on lessons from across the Council of Europe and what they mean for litigation in Georgia.
