Event details
Since 2008, the FSLN government in Nicaragua has established a policy of "non-contamination of information" that has led to different stages of repression against the media. This strategy demonstrates how dictatorships need to destroy press freedom in order to establish a single discourse enabling it to remain in power.
Abigail Hernandez, an experienced Nicaragua journalist in exile, will give a talk on the increasing repression of press freedoms in Central America and why journalists are specifically targeted by authoritarian governments.
