Event details
Federico Reuben and Kate Harrison-Ledger will share their recent experience of preparing and performing Reuben’s On Violence for piano, live electronics, computer display and sensors. Notorious for its complex and precarious electronics setup, and its overwhelming physical and mental challenges for the pianist, a performance of On Violence is to be ‘survived’ and serves as a ‘rite of passage’ for both performers. In this CMRC session, Reuben and Ledger will divulge the inner workings of their approach in meeting the demands of the piece. This will include the practicalities of a performer who must adjust and perform with technology, as well as the practicalities of a composer who must adjust and perform with renewed technology. By detailing how they each prepared and rehearsed for performance, they will provide insight into two opposing perspectives but that share the need to survive.
