PhD topic title: Variations in carbon stocks and trade-offs with other ecosystem services in the Kruger National Park, South Africa

PhD supervisor(s): Lindsey Gillson, Jonny Gordon, Brennen Fagan and Rob Marchant

Biography and research

My research examines the role of Sub-Saharan Africa’s savanna and grassland ecosystems in mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable development. Although often targeted for tree planting to boost carbon stocks, these open landscapes are undervalued for their carbon potential and other services, including biodiversity, habitat, grazing, and tourism. Taking a holistic approach and implementing paleoecology, I assess how these landscapes may best provide carbon stocks.

Before joining LCAB, I completed an Msci in Ecology and Conservation at Lancaster University. I also gained hands-on industry experience working in a range of roles, from estates operative to inshore fisheries.
