What does true inclusivity look like in student sports?
Meet Darcy, the Sports Officer at York Students' Union and this week’s Human of York.
Darcy joined the Sport Union Committee during their second year, an opportunity that highlighted the impact a student-led organisation can have.
Now, Darcy is the representative for York on all sports matters. The mission? Make sport at York inclusive for everyone.
Darcy said: “I lead two committees to ensure continuous improvement, and I also lead the two big sporting events of the year, Roses, our annual sporting competition between Lancaster University, and College Varsity.
“The variety of sports we have on offer, across so many different levels, means there is truly a space for everyone, whether they consider themselves an athlete or not.
“The Students’ Union Social Sport programme is one of the best ways to try new things. The programme has a series of weekly turn-up-and-play sessions that you can attend on your own or with friends.”
Darcy’s ethos as Sports Officer is about building a culture where every single person feels confident showing up. We are proud of Darcy’s work to continue to offer opportunities in sport to students at York.
