Humans of York: Chidnma

"Seeing someone who looks like you succeed despite societal barriers is transformative; it plants seeds of possibility in minds that might otherwise doubt their potential."

This week's Human of York is Chidinma.

She's an alum who founded 'Inspire Her Afrika', an organisation dedicated to helping young African women gain the confidence to follow their dreams.

It was while studying at York that a professor, Dr Maureen Ndege, helped her realise what she wanted to do after graduating.

Chidinma said: "When she said her only wish was for me to 'pay it forward', I knew exactly what I wanted to do next.

"Inspire Her Afrika focuses on personal branding, networking and leadership – skills essential for African women who often face societal barriers limiting their voices."

The organisation has now changed over 26 women's lives, across eight countries, and Chidinma's dream is to help women in every African country to build their careers.
